If you’ve been feeling inspired and creative or even confused and frustrated today, it may be for reasons beyond your control.
Tonight will see the rising of the Strawberry Supermoon, a phenomenon where the full moon passes Earth closer than on its regular orbit making it appear larger and brighter in the sky.
Unfortunately, the name is quite misleading with ‘Strawberry’ referring to the cultural aspect rather than the actual colour but don’t let that stop you from trying to catch a glimpse because it’s still going to be one impressive sight.
For those of us in Adelaide, casting an eye on the spectacle might be a bit tricky and might require us to pray to the weather gods to part the clouds. BUT, if we’re lucky and the heavens open up, Adelaide has some pretty great spots to have a look or better yet, take some great images.
OUR TOP PICKS FOR PLACES TO GET A GLIMPSE:
- Mount Lofty Summit (open until 1am tonight for your viewing pleasure)
- One of Adelaide’s great rooftop bars
- Windy Point
- One of Adelaide’s many beautiful beaches with uninterrupted views of the sky – think Henley Beach or Glenelg
- Mount Barker Summit
Circling back to the name, ‘Strawberry Moon’ was the name given to the June Full Moon by Native North Americans to mark the perfect time to gather ripened strawberries but aside from a beautiful sight and harvest cues, the Strawberry Supermoon also brings with it a lot of emotional and spiritual effects – or so they say.
According to astrologers, Supermoons signify a time of transformation with tonight’s Supermoon in the astrological sign of Sagitarrius is said to carry themes of fun, fantasy and illusion. Basically, this full moon is a time for you to let your hair down so whether you believe in astrology or not, it’s a good enough reason as any to go and have some fun!
The moon will begin to rise tonight at 4:46pm and will be visible (weather depending) all night until it sets early tomorrow morning.
